On the season: “We accomplished a lot this season. We proved all the critics wrong. We took the number one team in the NBA to a seven-game series, which was very exciting and intense. It was fun.”

On what it will take for him to come back as a Maverick: “Not too much. This is a great city, the fans here are amazing, even media guys are awesome. It’s a great environment here. Mark and Donnie have built an amazing franchise here. It’s like a family here. I’m going to weigh my options out and see what it’s going to take for me to get another championship ring. I would love to add to the ring I have. I’m going to retire here, regardless. I’m going to be a Dallas local here in the coming years. I’m going to make this my home.”

On possibly going to play with the Miami Heat: “I don’t know. I’ve actually never really experienced free agency. After your 15th year in the league, it’s a weird feeling, I guess. I’m not even thinking about that. When July 1 comes, I’ll look at my options and see which options is best suited to me to add to my legacy.”

On if a championship means more than money right now: “Oh yeah, by far. It’s not about money right now. I’ve made a lot of money in my career. I’ve been truly been blessed. I’m not taking any of this for granted. I’ve just got to weigh my options. Of course, we’re close here, not too far. We’ve got a lot of guys here that are free agents again. It’s going to be interesting. We’re going to see what’s out there and what’s available. I’ve just got to wait it out. I’ll leave it in God’s hands.”

On how many years he’s got left: “I’m looking at maybe two, a couple of more. I think I’m going to have to call it after that. I think it’ll be time. It’s not all about basketball. I have a son now. A lot of it is predicated on him.”

On potentially being a starter or reserve going forward: “It’s just about the situation. I’ve made sacrifices to my game to accomplish my dreams. I wouldn’t mind doing it again, if I have to. It’s just about adjusting and getting your mind set for it.”

On potentially finishing his career with Dirk Nowitzki: “Me and Dirk, we’re bonded together for life. We’re champions. It’s awesome. Dirk is a special player. I’ve got to play with him for five years. We’ve done some amazing things on the court together. It’s awesome. We’re definitely good friends. Like I said, we’re bonded together for life. It would be awesome.”

On Rick Carlisle saying he’d love to have five Marion’s on the floor: “It’s an amazing compliment. I’m honored. I think it just gives me energy, it fuels me to compete the way I compete. I’m going to do whatever it takes to win, I’m about winning. Whatever I can do to help make my teammates better, that’s what it’s about.”

On defense: “It’s huge. Offense wins game, defense wins championships. When were playing defense, we won the championship. We’ve made strides in in. We’ve just got to buckle down and get it done.”

On if his roll will switch entirely to just defense: “I’m unique. I’m able to do a little bit of everything, so I’m not just going to label myself as one player. I’m a basketball player. I’m going to go out there and play basketball and do what I can to help my team. I can’t label myself as a defensive player. I’ve got a lot of points (laughs).”

On having his jersey retired in Dallas: “That would be awesome. I don’t know, that’s not for me to decide. Why not? It was great bringing a championship that deserved it. It was long overdue. It was fun.”

On liking the media: “You guys are awesome. You make our jobs easier. It’s fun dealing with you everyday. Sometimes you asked some messed up questions, here and there. I give you my messed up responses, here and there. Sometimes I really want to tell you what I’m really thinking, but I keep it politically correct at times. I can honestly say you are really good. No beefs.

On being the first to say that about the media: “I didn’t say you look good. I just said you were okay.”
